Tarot in Reverse News!

It's hard to believe that there's less than 10 weeks to go before the release of  Tarot in Reverse! I'm am getting so excited about my full-color, glossy-paged beauty, published by Schiffer Books on April 28, 2012.

Well, I have a few tidbits of news to share with you all! 

Tarot in Reverse just got a fabulous thumbs-up in the form of a review by Amanda Donnelly over at the 78 Whispers in My Ear blog. You can read the review at this link.

The second bit of news is that I'm taking full advantage of the super addicting image-sharing site Pinterest, deciding to create a special board consisting of all the pop culture references in Tarot in Reverse! 

This means that you'll be able to view, at a glance, every pop culture reference in Tarot in Reverse in the form of an image or video. In fact, some cards will have more than one image or video.

For example, the 9 of Swords includes mentions of the Crawling video by Linkin Park, an image of Edgar Allan Poe's "Tell-Tale Heart" and The Scream by Edvard Munch. Below is a screenshot of a few of the pins I have up so far (all the Court Cards and 10s, with some of the 9s):

Tarot in Reverse Update

Big news from my publisher, Schiffer Books!

My Editor loved my manuscript of Tarot in Reverse so much that she lobbied for it to be in full color, on glossy pages...and the publishing team agreed to it! I am blown away, and humbled, that Tarot in Reverse will be getting such special treatment!

Because it will now be a bigger book, I also have an extra 10,000-15,000 words I can write, so I plan on including sample readings using reversals from my own case files.

The sorta bad news, though, is that they nixed Ana's cover, saying it lacked continuity (since the interior imagery will be Universal Waite). But we'll still get her lovely design in there in the back of the book, with a write up on her and her art!

Is this good news or what?!

Because Schiffer Books is so collaborative, they asked for my input on the cover. I came up with a mock-up to inspire them using the Universal Waite images they required. (And a huge thanks to U.S. Games Systems, Inc. for giving me permission to use their images throughout Tarot in Reverse and on the cover. They rock!)

I'm so excited because I know this will be a beautiful book, and because I know you'll find Tarot in Reverse (only the 3rd book on the market to address reversed cards!) an informative, entertaining and enormously helpful read. Coming Spring 2012!

Design My Next Book’s Cover! (Tarot in Reverse)

Calling all designers! How would you like to design the cover of my next book, Tarot in Reverse?

Now let me be up front with you: there is no guarantee that Schiffer Publishing, the publisher of my next book, will choose to use your cover. However, if someone ends up designing a super-awesome cover that I love, I will do my darnedest to lobby to get your cover used! (Which means, of course, that you’ll get your name and website URL in my book, designating you as the cover designer. Can you say “free exposure to future clients”?!)

My Editor, Dinah Roseberry, approves--but again, we can't promise!

I’ll post all designs here on my blog with your name and URL. Again, free publicity for YOU! All entrants get a special gift from me, with the winner getting an extra goodie for his/her time.

The really great news, for me, is that U.S. Games Systems, Inc. has allowed me to use images of their beloved Universal Waite Tarot for both the cover design AND the interior book art. That means that you can acquire a copy of the Universal Waite Tarot, scan hi-res images, and use them in your design of Tarot in Reverse’s cover! Or, feel free to email me through my site and I'll send you the cards you request for completing your design.

The barebones of what you need on the cover is the title Tarot in Reverse and my name, Janet Boyer (don’t include the “by”—just use my name). If you choose, you can also include the subtitle Making Sense of the Upside Down Cards in a Spread on the cover. Allow the title and purpose of the book to inspire you!

After all images are in, I’ll post an anonymous poll here on my blog, as well as garner votes from my Facebook page. Considering those votes, my husband and I will then apply our own artistic spidey-sense to determine the cover that WE like best. Then, I’ll announce the winner!

Tarot in Reverse Book Update

Whew!

I’ve been hard at work finishing up my second book, Tarot in Reverse.

In order for my book to come out Fall 2011, my sights were set on a December 1st deadline. However, “life” got in the way and I decided that it would be better not to rush the process, even if it meant a later release date for Tarot in Reverse.

The good news is that I’ve come up with some added goodies that I’m able to put in the book now that the pressure is (mostly) off, and since the manuscript is 90% complete.

Tarot in Reverse will be the first book on Tarot card reversals that features extensive keyphrases, anecdotes, sample readings and new spreads--all for those cards that end upside down...and the reversals of life.
