Gray Clouds Into Glorious Sunsets

A friend and colleague of mine, Tierney Sadler (creator of the Deck of 1000 Spreads), wrote a fabulous blog post about how gray clouds burst into a glorious sunset over her head...and how it relates to triumph after tragedy (both personally, and via other examples).

 Here's the opening paragraphs:

See, it started out all overcast and gray. And I was pretty sure the sunset would suck. But then I saw a tinge on pink on the bottom of one of the clouds and thought, "well now". Then minutes later, the sunset exploded into fabulous color.

This reminded me of what happened at my last job. I said the wrong thing at the wrong time to my boss and she, in turn, completely handled the situation poorly and it became clear my days were numbered. So the skies on that day seemed pretty gray. But almost immediately it occurred to me to become a freelancer. The gray clouds got a tinge of pink. Then days later, I gave my notice...

My name is Mary Griffin and I am the creator and artist of the self published tarot deck THE HEZICOS TAROT. I have always painted since a child. Art to me, in all its forms, is wonderful, enlightening and very spiritual. I was fortunate enough to come from an artistic family and was always encouraged to expand my imagination. My style is very unusual and my artwork has plenty to explore. I work in most mediums, specializing in paintings of animals and fairy folk also “Trompe l’oeil” and painted furniture. I have completed many private commissions as well as exhibited in the UK, selling my work to France, Spain and India, also teaching art and tarot.

For many years I have been working privately, one to one, as a psychic clairvoyant specialising in tarot but could never find a deck that connected to me personally, so I decided to create my own. THE HEZICOS TAROT was launched in 2010 and was voted third most popular deck in the Aceclectic Tarot list for 2010. My tarot deck is available to purchase on my website www.hezicostarot.com. I have recently written and illustrated a children’s book and now hoping to find a publisher. I live in Cornwall, UK with my wonderful family and animals.

New Book and Deck Releases

Some of my newer readers may not realize that I used to compile monthly releases of new books, decks and audio (mostly in the Mind/Body/Spirit genre)—for 6 ½ years (2005-2011).

It was tons of work—scouring the print catalogues of a dozen or more publishers for appropriate products, looking them up on Amazon, generating direct links so my readers could click for more information (or buy), snagging the item’s cover, carefully laying out the page on my website and so on.

New Releases Snap Crop 500

Needless to say, it just got too labor intensive to keep doing my monthly New Releases, especially since our son was getting older (I homeschool) and I began writing my own books.

The cool thing is, though, that there are well over 1,000 books, decks, Tarot bags, CDs and more to be discovered among those pages. I figured you may want to look through all those goodies at your leisure (especially if you’re a book junkie like me!) and perhaps stumble upon something that calls out to you.

Click here for the last New Releases page published on JanetBoyer.com. If you scroll down to the bottom of that page (and all the subsequent release pages) there’s a list of links to the previous months.

Have you enjoyed my reviews, posts, books, radio shows, etc. over the years? Here’s an easy way to support my work: whenever you go to buy something on Amazon.com, use one of the product links on my site (embedded within the New Releases or Reviews)—or here on my blog (my books listed on the left)—and Amazon will throw a few coins my way since I’m an Associate (each link has a special janetboyercom-20 tag on it that identifies me). For example, this URL goes to my Tarot Basics Amazon page.

Neat-o, yes? You can support your favorite Tarot personality (ha!) while shopping at Amazon. Win-win!

Many thanks, and enjoy browsing all those New Releases (that are no longer new, but hidden gems waiting to be discovered by you)!

Who You Are Not

Castle clouds 300You are not the car you drive.
You are not your hair color.
You are not your height.
You are not your profession.
You are not your traumatic experience.
You are not your funny remarks.
You are not your achievements.
You ae not your Facebook profile.
You are not your age.
You are not your favorite sports team.
You are not your fears.
You are not your house.
You are not your latest gadget.
You are not your thoughts.
You are not your circle of friends.
You are not your family.
You are not your parents.
You are not your children.
You are not your weight.
You are not your favorite drink.

You are the biggest treasure. But who are you? What are you? What is you purpose in life? The reason you get up in the morning?

You are your potential.
You are your wish.
You are your soul and inspiration.

Noah's Piano Compositions

Our little man will be 16 in three months (dear God, where does the time go?!), and he started playing the piano. He began lessons last August and stopped them in April of this year. Seems he's got a knack for it. Below are two of his original compositions (yeah, he can sight read, too). Enjoy!

Kindness vs. Civility

Came across a blogger who’s a self-appointed ambassador for an online “kindness movement”. Here’s the irony: she boasts about being a hard-core hip-hop fan—to the point of playing the genre during her yoga classes (!) and tweeting links to what she’s listening to.

Kindness hustle

In case you don’t know what hip-hop (mostly) consists of, think gangsta rap, objectification of women, crude sexuality, rampant obscenities and glorification of materialism (including ways to get lots of money, like drug dealing).

Recently, she encouraged readers to “write down their inspirations”, a nice little Remedial Creativity 101 post that would be fine…except that she posted pics of several of her personal notebooks.

One of the covers? Fuck You and Your Blog.

::blink:: Your holder of big dreams has that on the cover?

Call me judgemental, but these clues hint to an angry, acquisitive “slumming-in-the-lower-chakras” female, Watson—not someone I’d want to hire as a “mystical mogul”, “biz mentor” or “Tarot coach”.

Saying that you support kindness by posting “Kindness Movement” links, placing related graphics on your blog or refusing to confront or publicly (keyword, publicly) insult an individual online doesn’t make you “kind”.

It just makes you “civil”.

Civility is a 1st Chakra fear response guarding against being scolded by—or kicked out of—a “tribe” or “association”. It involves fears emanating from other chakra issues, too, but the Root Chakra is the mother lode.

So what is kindness?

Kindness handbook 400It emanates from the Heart Chakra. It’s what you truly think and feel about humanity or an individual—you know, when alone and no one is looking.

It’s the motive of wishing that all beings be free from suffering—even those you don’t like, or “enemies”. It’s the goal of wanting to serve and help others, not seeing your Twitter followers, Facebook fans or blog readers as virtual dollar signs—sources for new gold grillz, yo.

To read my review of a wonderful book on this topic—The Kindness Handbook by Sharon Salzberg—click here.

You have heard it that it was said, “You shall love your neighbor and hate your enemy”. But I say to you, love your enemies, bless those who curse you, do good to those who hate you, and pray for those who spitefully use you and persecute you…For if you love those who love you, what reward have you? Do not even the tax collectors do the same? And if you greet your brethren only, what do you do more than others? Do not even the tax collectors do so? – Jesus (Matthew 5: 43-44; 46-48 NKJV
