What Is Creativity Coaching?

Creativity Coaching is Life Coaching for those in the arts, those longing to create/perform or those wanting to prioritize creativity.

Life Coaches are trained to help you focus on the present moment, clarify what you want, identify any hindrances to achieving what you want and then co-design a path forward.

Creativity Coaches like myself usually get extra training to help artists navigate obstacles, as well as support those longing to be more creative--and we often have decades of active creation under our belts.

When coaching my fellow creatives, I consider myself more of a cartographer than an archeologist--and really, that's one of the main things that separates a therapist from a coach: therapists/counselors dig deep in the past to puzzle out the "whys" of what happened to a client, while coaches focus on the here-and-now, the "where". (Also, coaches do not diagnose and treat disorders, unless also accredited in that field).

Certainly, coaches honor and acknowledge the past. However, I deal primarily with the hopes and aspirations of the present moment--assessing your current coordinates, looking at the "map" of your creative goals and personality, then co-designing a route towards your destination.

Creativity Coaching helps with the "how": how to get you from where you are to where you want to be in your artistic pursuits.

What does this look like? Well, I help my fellow creatives:

  • Start, change or improve a creative practice
  • Boost confidence
  • Manifest creative potential
  • Overcome self-censorship 
  • Make meaning out of art and creative pursuits
  • Clarify priorities
  • Heal from creative burnout
  • Manage creative anxiety, self-doubt and fears
  • Recover from rejection, negative feedback or disappointments
  • Embrace experimentation and risk
  • Brainstorm options and identify possibilities
  • Look for inspiration and feed motivation
  • Confront a harsh inner critic
  • Navigate procrastination and self-sabotage
  • Focus on self-defined goals
  • Gain (or re-gain) a sense of curiosity and wonderment
  • Celebrate "wins", both large and small
